Our children may be unable to stay in the care of their birth families because of safeguarding concerns, such as experiencing abuse or neglect, or because their birth parents feel unable to care for the child and have therefore consented to them being placed for adoption. The experiences of our children will be different, but all of them will have experienced being removed from their birth family’s care.

Many of our children will have been placed in the care of foster carers when they were a baby or a younger child, although some of our children will be placed through early permanence with approved adopters who also act as foster carers initially.

You can find out more about types of abuse and its impact on children (external link).

There are lots of children waiting to be adopted, but we are particularly seeking adopters for:

  • Brothers and sisters
  • Children with additional needs
  • Children over the age of four years
  • Early permanence.

What do adopted children need?

Our children need adoptive families who are going to offer them safe, consistent care and love throughout their life. They need adopters who are going to be open and honest with them about their life story, how they came to be placed for adoption, and be able to support children to work through the trauma and abuse they may have experienced.

Our children’s experiences can have a lasting impact which can mean that they have additional behavioural or emotional needs. Some of our children will also have additional health needs and/or developmental needs. All of our children will need help and support from their adoptive parents to understand their dual-identity as part of their birth family and their adoptive family.
